JEWS FOR JESUS TO SPEAK
Rehoboth United Methodist Church invites all too hear Lynn McCoy to speak on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 6:30 PM. Rehoboth United Methodist Church is located on 30 E. Salisbury Street in Williamsport, MD. McCoy is an evangelist with the Jews For Jesus organization’s Washington, D.C. branch.

Jews for Jesus is an organization which proclaims that Jesus is the Messiah of Israel and Savior of the World. "What could be more Jewish than following the Messiah?" Says Lynn McCoy, who considers herself 100 percent Jewish and 100 percent Christian.

"My father was an officer at our Orthodox synagogue, yet we were not religious," said McCoy. "In college I was exposed to many religions, but adhered to none. I knew intuitively that there could only be one truth about God. When someone from Jews for Jesus spoke at our school, I came out of curiosity. I was fascinated that a Jewish person could believe in Jesus. I agreed to read a book entitled Y’ shua-The Jewish Way to Say Jesus, by Moishe Rosen, which is an argument for the Messiahship of Jesus based on the Hebrew prophets. It was convincing, and that was the beginning of my faith in Jesus. That was in 1983."

McCoy graduated from the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She came on staff with Jews for Jesus in 1987. McCoy is based at their Washington D.C. branch, but she often spends her summers in New York as part of the Summer Witnessing Campaigns conducted by the organization. Though small and soft spoken, McCoy doesn’t lack spunk. He street evangelism style includes handing out gospel pamphlets, marching in parades, and using drama, music and humor to preach to outdoor crowds.

Jews for Jesus was founded by Moishe Rosen, a Jew who has believed in Jesus for over 35 years. The organization has permanent branches in eight North American cities (San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Toronto, New York City, Washington, D.C. and Fort Lauderdale) as well as over 127 volunteer chapters spanning some 41 states and five countries. The group’s international branches are headquartered in Johannesburg, London, Paris, Odessa, Moscow, Essen, Rio de Janeiro, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, and Tel Aviv.

David Brickner, has served with Jews for Jesus since 1980, was elected Executive Director in 1996 when he was 37. Brickner sees Jew for Jesus as a nineties ministry that is 2000 years old. "We began in 32 CE give or take a year. Jesus’ fist followers were Jewish men and women and since then there have been some of us in every generation."

To McCoy and other Jews for Jesus, believing in Jesus makes sense in light of the Jewish Bible and in light of their experiences as "believers." for those who argue that Christianity contradicts the meaning of Judaism, McCoy says there are answers which she will be happy to discuss after the presentation.
